Optical Brightening Agent (VBL)

Properties:
1) VBL has a blue-violet shade. It is characterized with high substantivity and very 
    good stability to migration; and can be used in a large pH range, from 5 to 12
2) Though VBL is effective with sizing agent, it is recommended to verify its 
    compatibility with products having different ionic strengths
3) Some important and positive characteristics of VBL include good stability with hard
    water and fillers, as well as fair to good light fastness

Toxicological information
1) VBL is not known to be dangerous if the usual precautions for handling chemicals
    are observed
2) Oral LD-50 (rat): >5,000mg/kg (highest dose tested) 
3) Oral LD-50 (mouse): >5,000mg/kg (highest dose tested)

Transport, Storage and Handling:
1) Labeling: 
    a) This product is not classified as hazardous according to international transport 
         regulations
    b) Avoid contact with skin, eyes and mucous membranes
    c) In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water.
2) Storage: keep in a closed container at room temperature (0 �C 40°C), protect 
     from freezing and keep away from acids

Applications  
VBL is a universal liquid brightening agent for a broad range of applications. In stock production, it can be added without dilution before cationic auxiliaries or alum. In size-press production, it can be used with starch CMC, PVA and other anionic or weak cationic sizing agents. It is also recommended in latex based coating colors with starch, CMC, PVOH and other combiners.

Add the product, if necessary pre-diluted with water before the addition. Good mixing will help assure its uniform distribution. Application dosage is 0.05 - 0.52% on weight of dry matter (stock) and 0.05 - 0.46% on dry pigment (coating application).
